URBAN MARKET comprehensive steel design
Located at a busy multi-modal intersection, amidst a rapidly developing community, the purpose of this design was to provide the community with a viable farmer's market. The solution was to create an expansive space to facilitate the large amount of movement from foot, bike, car, and rapid transit located nearby. The site is located near the former development of Cabrini Green on the south side, and Lincoln Park to the north. The area was in rapid development. Statistics of surrounding income presented a very broad range, and multiple economic classes. The majority of the site is open and allows for community interaction. It does not attempt to become prohibitive of the interaction of different statistics. The un-conditioned space of the market offers fresh and attainable produce and natural products necessary for a healthy and efficient lifestyle. The market happens on weekends, in the morning hours. The enclosed and conditioned pavilions contain dining, entertainment, and prepared foods options.
